Do I Have to Complete a Renewal App Every Year?

Yesterday, I was at a luncheon and an attorney came up to me, kind of moaning a little bit because he had to complete a renewal application.

He told me, “Don, every year, it’s the same thing. My practice doesn’t change, why in the world do I have to take the hour or hour and a half to complete a renewal application?”

Well, I wish I could tell you that there is a great answer to that, but there is not. You HAVE to complete the renewal application each and every year.

Most of the carriers require it. There is one or two carriers in the state of Pennsylvania that I am aware of that if you have been with them for a certain amount of time, they will give you what is know as an auto renewal or an automatic renewal, where an application is not required, but your statement stating that nothing has changed from the prior application is really all that is needed. Again, that is really a very few number of carriers.

The bulk of the carriers in Pennsylvania each and every year require you to complete a renewal application.
